CHICAGO – MAY 10, 2005 . . . For the third consecutive year, Jam Theatricals, a Chicago-based entertainment company that presents and produces theatrical productions throughout North America, has been honored with Tony Award® nominations for its very successful Broadway engagements.
Jam Theatricals, as a producer, has received a combined total of 20 Tony Award nominations for its Broadway engagements. Receiving 14 nominations including Best Musical is the smash-hit musical, “Monty Python's Spamalot" starring David Hyde Pierce, Tim Curry, and Hank Azaria, and receiving 6 nominations including Best Revival of a Play is the Pulitzer Prize winning drama “Glengarry Glen Ross" starring Alan Alda, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Tambor, Gordon Clapp, Frederick Weller, Tom Wopat, and Jordan Lage. The 2005 Tony Awards will be announced on Sunday, June 5.
“Being nominated a third straight year is an incredible honor for us," says Steve Traxler, president of Jam Theatricals. “‘Spamalot' and ‘Glengarry Glen Ross' are two amazing shows with extremely talented casts, and we're thankful to be involved with these high-caliber Broadway productions." “Monty Python's Spamalot," tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail, featuring a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights, killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas creating some of the most unforgettable musical production numbers ever. Directed by Tony and Academy Award-winner Mike Nichols and starring David Hyde Pierce ("Fraiser"), Tim Curry ("Rocky Horror Picture Show") and Hank Azaria ("The Simpsons"), “Spamalot" features a book by Monty Python-alum Eric Idle, lovingly ripped off from the screenplay of the acclaimed "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" film with a new score featuring music and lyrics by Idle and John Du Prez. In addition to the Tony Awards, “Monty Python's Spamalot" is the winner of 4 2005 Outer Critic Awards® including Outstanding Musical. “Spamalot" has 2 nominations for the 2005 Drama League Award® including Distinguished Production of a Musical, and has received 12 nominations for 2005 Drama Desk Awards® including Outstanding Musical.
“Glengary Glen Ross" is a riveting account of the competing personalities in a seedy Chicago real estate office, where its business as usual until a high-stakes sales contest takes a shocking turn. Welcome to the fast and furious world of American entrepreneurship, where lying, cheating and stealing are all in a day's work... and where the salesman will stop at nothing to close a deal. It's a no holds barred, cutthroat competition in David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning suspense comedy, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Wicked) and featuring an all-star cast starring Alan Alda, Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate), Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue), Frederick Weller (Take Me Out) and Tom Wopat (Dukes of Hazzard). In addition to the Tony Awards, “Glengarry Glen Ross" has received 3 nominations for 2005 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Play, and is the winner of the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. It has received 3 nominations for 2005 Drama League Awards including Distinguished Revival of a Play, and had 3 nominations for the 2005 Outer Critic Circle Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Play. -more- “Jam's involvement in these two productions from a creative perspective has been one of the most memorable and fulfilling experiences of my career," says Arny Granat, chairman of Jam Theatricals. “We pride ourselves in producing the highest quality entertainment, and we have found that in ‘Spamalot' and ‘Glengarry Glen Ross.'"
